Community Host Family

Share a Table.
Experience the Heart of Uganda.

As a core part of the SoarAway Emikago program, every volunteer and intern is paired with a local Community Host Family.

Once a week, you will visit your host family to share a traditional meal, spend time in their home, and participate in everyday community life. The families we work with take joy in welcoming international guests, sharing local customs and food, and learning about your culture in return.

For many participants, these weekly visits become the most memorable highlight of their time in Uganda.

Get in Touch

"I have lived with host families across Europe, and I know how terrifying and beautiful it can be to enter a new home in a new country. That is why we designed our Community Host Family experience and shared housing with so much intentionality, warmth, and care. You are never a stranger here; you are family."
